Brighton started the quicker of the two teams with the first chance falling to Leandro Trossard in the fifth minute which was blocked by the Palace player. Another chance game quickly for Adam Lallana outside the box but it was blocked again by the Palace player. A huge chance came in the tenth minute for Brighton after Ward messed up his clearance and Marc Cucurella intercepted the ball and played Leandro Trossard through on goal. His shot brilliantly saved by Jack Butland to keep the scores level. The next ten minutes where very tense with neither team having an attempt on goal (a few fouls and offsides). Another chance fell to Brighton and this time it was Neal Maupay's shot which went just wide of Butland's goal. Three minutes later another chance fell to Adam Lallana from outside the box, brilliantly blocked again! After thirty four minutes the first huge moment of the rivalry happened when Will Hughes pulled down Joel Veltman in the area, after a quick look at the monitor a penalty was given. HUGE moment for Brighton! Pascal Gross steps up to take the penalty and tries to place it down the middle but it's saved by Butland! Good save or poor penalty? The penalty miss didn't dishearten Brighton because from the resultant corner Dan Burn had a free header that resulted in an incredible reaction save from Butland. Five minutes till half time and Brighton thought they had found the opener when Jack Butland spilled the ball to Maupay to tap it home but VAR deemed that there was a foul on Butland by Maupay. On the stroke of half time Palace had their first chance but it was easily blocked by the Brighton player. In the third minute of added time Brighton had another opportunity but it was lashed high and wide by Leandro Trossard. Brighton felt they should have headed in with the lead at half time.

The second half began how the first half started with Leandro Trossard missing another chance and Jakub Moder brilliantly finding space in the box to dink the ball onto the crossbar... SO CLOSE! On the fiftieth minute Alexis Mac Allister played a lovely chip ball into Moder who was through on goal but his lofted effort was magnificently saved by Jack Butland again. Pascal Gross tried an ambitious volley from the following corner but sliced high over the bar. Palace's second chance of the game fell to Eze on the edge of the box, his shot high and wide over the bar. The first sub of the game game in the fifty six minute when the injured Adam Lallana was replaced by Tariq Lamptey. Brighton still pilled on the pressure with Adam Webster's flicked header going just past the goal and Trossard's shot going just wide of the post. Surely Brighton have to score soon? Palace needed to do something to change the game so in the sixty fifth minute Eze and Edouard where replaced by Milivojevic and Mateta. Four minutes after the subs where made Palace created a lovely passage of passing play to work the ball into Schlupp who balls it back to Gallagher in the centre of the box to fire Palace in front (0-1, 69' minute) . The same thing every time... Brighton domination but Palace find themselves ahead. This goal didn't knock Brighton's spirit because they still continued to bombard the Palace goal. Another shot blocked by the Palace player after Mac Allister tries to fire one home from long range. Brighton needed to change while on top so Potter brought on Solly March and Danny Welbeck for Pascal Gross and Joel Veltman in the seventy third minute. Adam Webster had another headed chance flicked just wide from an Alexis Mac Allister corner but still Brighton couldn't find the equaliser. Vieira knew his side where being dominated in the air so brought on Benteke for Elise in the eighty first minute. Benteke couldn't do it again could he? A small 5 minute spell came now with no chances but in the eighty seventh minute Neal Maupay produced a fabulous flick turn to leave Ward on the floor and his drilled cross was tapped in by Anderson (Own goal), a brilliant finish by the Palace defender! The least Brighton deserved (1-1, 87' minute). Four minutes of added time were indicated by the fourth official and Brighton pushed for the winner. Solly March missed a good chance in the ninety second minute before putting a brilliant ball into Danny Welbeck in the ninety fourth minute who's headed went inches over the bar! Brighton thought they'd done it and think they should've had all three points but the spoils were shared and the game ended 1-1 moving Brighton up to eighth in the Premier League.
